Carmen received the commission for the fourteen stanzas of the Stations of the Cross from Monsignor Gian Michele Fusconi, rector of Regina Pacis), in Forli, in the late1960's. Created first in terracotta, the end result did not satisfy Carmen who felt that each scene should be imposing enough to be perceived as part of an experience rather than only an observation, so, she recreated the work approximately ten times bigger than the original incarnation, in fiberglass. The fourteen pieces that today grace the rotunda of the church were created between 1970 and 1972. Carmen put in each sculptured image more than the traditional depictions of each station, to portray and express contemporary social issues intertwined with the scenes from the gospels.
